There is a proposed ammendment to the Criminal Code with the well-intentioned purpose of beefing up laws against cruelty to animals. Unfortunately it has some glaring oversights which open to door to anyone harvesting an animal while hunting or farming being charged with cruelty to animals. Please contact your MP to demand that this Bill be clarified to exclude hunters/trappers taking game by legal methods, and/or farmers slaughtering their own stock for food or to end suffering of chronically ill animals.

Here's the link to the actual Bill:

This is the passage of particular concern. Para C seems designed to protect hunters, however the door is left open by the terms brutally and viciously in para B not being defined, and the specific reference to an immediate death being irrelevant. (Also bear in mind that most hunting kills are not immediate - swift yes, immediate - no)

CRIMINAL CODE
CODE CRIMINEL L.R., ch. C-46

1. The Criminal Code is amended by adding the following after section 182:

That is a really scary bill! They have no luck with the registration to "control" firearms..So now they are going after areas where they would be used. Start with hunting and then they can move onto IPSC, trap, skeet. etc. It must be a new angle for them.."let the civilians keep their firearms, but we won't give then any opportunity to use them. Then they will get fed up and not bother owning them anymore.." --Guns gone..TA-Da! This country is going right into the toilet! The last prime minister literally steals 1 billion from Canada and no-one seems to care. What's happening with this so called investigation that was suppose to be happening??? Pretty quiet now..America seems to have the better idea..look what happened to the enron dudes. Even Martha Frigging Stewart..!

But what do you expect form a country that's got it's electorial districts set up so if you get all of ontario and 3/4 of quebec (or visa-versa) you win the federal election. Personally i wish Quebec would seperate. Then that would pave the way for BC, ALTA, SASK, MAN. YUKON and the territories to form their own country. I'm for a "Western Canada"..

I appreciate your comments. However I'm not sure I see the connection between Bill C50, C68 and Western/Quebec separation. There are some nice folks in QC, some are members of this forum. :thumbsup1:

I'm pretty sure that law wasn't proposed or drafted by a western politician. Or maybe under duress from one of Martins cronies applying pressure. Hunting/ outdoor recreation is big business here in BC. Western canada separating is not a personal "knock" to anyone living in central canada. But speaking on a political level, Ontario and Qubec are on the gravey train.

Moneys from both east and west coast are funneled into those two provinces. Keep's the voters happy. That's why most of Canadian law or political decisions are to cater to central canada or special interest groups based in central canada. I'm pretty positive this bill is created to please some Ontario or Quebec special interest group.
