Well, archery deer and turkey started here this past Friday. I had planned to take Friday off and head to the woods for the weekend. Unfortunately I had to work that day, and come in today (Saturday) as well. I'm bummed!
You gotta do, what you gotta do however. Maybe I'll catch that eye/vision desease for a day or two that happens during hunting seasons this coming week. You know the one, it's the "Can't SEE being at work" illness.

, yeah its the pits when work gets in the way of hunting. Hope you come down with a nasty case of that eye condition.

Good Luck!

Yes I did. I left Sunday morning to return to the happy hunting grounds. When I got there however the entry to the section of the forest I always go to was CLOSED. There was a forest ranger manning the gate that informed me that it was closed do to fire danger. It seems that there was a fire not far away and they were afraid it might spread to this section of the forest. He said he expected it to be back open by Monday. Guess I should have done my homework before leaving town.
Anyway, rather than head home I drove for miles around the closed area to a section I was unfamiliar with to give it ago. Figured I do a little scouting if nothing else to see if the grass was any greener over yonder. I did a lot of driving and walking around. I didn't see any deer or turkey, but did find Elk. In fact I came across a bull that must have died that evening or morning. I couldn't see any obvious cause of death, and he looked healthy. You can't just roll one of those over to make sure he wasn't shot or something, but I could see no blood on the trail he layed down on. I hope someone didn't take a cheap shot on him and that it was natural causes. Elk hunting doesn't start there until Sept. 13th. He was a pretty nice 5 X 4, not a monster but nice.
Well, maybe I will be able to make a run up there this weekend to an area I know better.

Well at least you were able to get out. That is too bad that your original destination was closed. I didn't realize that there were fires still going in Arizona.

Fire problems might be big here in Colorado too over the next month, but hopefully moisture will start rolling in by October.

That is a pretty rare find coming up on the dead bull intact. I don't believe I have ever come up on a dead big game animal intact, small game from time to time, but not big game. Predator/scavengers come up on it.

Sounds kind of fishy having a healthy bull keel over. Although maybe it had a health problem.

Better luck next weekend, hopefully the fires will clear out of where you like to go.
