"To create man was a quaint and original idea, but to add the sheep was tautology."

"Still-hunting the bighorn is always a toilsome and laborious task... No other kind of hunting does as much to bring out the good qualities, both moral and physical, of the sportsmen who follow it. If a man keeps at it, it is bound to make him both hardy and resolute; to strengthen his muscles and fill out his lungs."

"Chukar (partridge) hunting is the ultimate sport. Hunting Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep is the ultimate adventure."
"When you look at the country the Bighorn Sheep live in - you have to laugh. Otherwise you'll cry."
... Jeff R. Filler
And on big game in general ...
"They live here - we're just visiting."
... M.C. (Bud) Filler, quoting Carl, in Two-Man Stick - Memoirs of a Smokejumper, Burning Mountain Press. |

Sheep hunters are romantics who love high places and solitude. To them the wild ram embodies the mystery and magic of the mountains, the rocky canyons, the snowy peaks, the fragrant alpine meadows, the gray slide rock, the icy dancing rills fed by snowbank and glacier, the sweet, clean air of the high places, and the sense of being alone on the top of the world with the eagles, the marmots, and the wild sheep themselves.
The sheep hunter is willing to climb until his lungs are bursting, to walk until his legs are dead weary, to grow hungry and thirsty for great rewards. There is no half way.

| Upon re-entry to civilization, the serious sheep hunter may have to burn his clothing and do whatever else is necessary to be accepted back open arms by the ones he loves. |

| I can boast killing a ram in Idaho 27-1, DIY, but in all that, nothing compares, in terms of difficulty, complexity, and wonder, with raising teenage daughters. |
