| Does anyone have any information about hunting elk and mule deer in this unit? I drew tags for either sex elk and for antlered mule deer and will be there Sept. 16 thru Spet. 22. I've been in the area which includes Taos, Red River, and Questa for vacations but have never hunted these areas. Any advise about places to hunt in this area or about elk hunting in general is greatly appreciated. |

I saw 2 cow elks about 2 months ago past Red River. Instead of going left at the fork, that highway takes you to Eagles Nest. You want to keep right & follow
the other highway until you see 4th of July Canyon. Sign strictly says high ground clearance 4x4 vehicles only, no trailers. 4th of July canyon takes you from one highway to another. The road follows the fence of a ranch. I seen the elks on the Carson national forest side. |

| Thanks for the reply...I didn't see anything the whole week. It was too hot and never heard a bugle all week. Just poor weather, plus there was a fire southwest of Taos that kept 'em low. |
