Being new at this, have yet to do my first elk hunt. How do most of you all get 4 hunters together to take advantage of drop camp prices for 4 or more? Then finding that can hunt well as a team. Then all of you on vacation at same time,
have same tags for same season, same unit. Some serious elk hunters.Any one ever get your tags and outfit yourself.I just bought a horse.Got my own truck and trailer.Mules that will pack meat is something to think about. So just trying to see what is the best ways.Rather than pay a big price tag to ride out on a ranch and shoot an elk.Thats not sport to me,not what I am looking for.
Looking for serious partners to hunt next 10 years. |

I have been way more succesful hunting elk solo. You can go where you want. when you want and it is a challenge to go on your own. The only thing i ever worry about is getting bored.

| I plan on giving it a go this year or next... decide in the next month or so. Planning DIY with bow in W Washington. Depending on how much info I can gather I will choose this year or next. If I can find a partner great, if not no biggie-just means longer meat pack-out time if I am successful. My biggest challenge as I see it is info on-site... I will hunt Washington but live in New Hampshire! |

Brahma Bull has visited the site since Jan7, So I doubt that he has much interest in this thread.. But I'll answer some of his questions.
1st. People who are friends and like to hunt will make time to come hunt together. Even if we don't all draw tags, We come and help those who did draw tags. We schedule our work and family duties so we can spend time with our friends.
2nd. Heck ya, I outfit my self. I own horses and provide the care, tack, trailer/truck etc. My friends in exchange, bring the food, Tent, Camp stove, pay the gas for my truck. We each contribute to the event.
I think Brahma Bull will find that his horses will be a major part of his life beyond elk hunting. If that's the only time he uses them, They will be wild and out of shape. I bought horses because I got tired of hauling elk out on my back. Now horses are a major hobbie and take up a LOT of my free time each day. I ride them year round. I have decreased the time spent fishing, skiing, basketball etc in order to spend more time with the horses.
Also he doesn't need mules to haul the meat. MY horses pull triple duty, they pack in camp, They haul me around the mountain while I hunt and they pack out the meat, the camp and me at the end of the hunt. |

| Buds sure do help, especially in the pack. I have packed by myself recently, knocked one down at 8am, finished right at sundown. It really depends, there are times I like to go by myself, but most of the time I hang out wit buds. |
