having missed every draw in New Mexico this year I have elected to try my hand at the Barbary sheep around here. I have scouted the northeastern area of Mt Taylor already down through the upper area of Black Mesa and either there are too many bow hunters out there right now or I'm too high up. I'm going out either to the Marquez WMA today or tomorrow to scout buut was wondering if anyone knew where these bugers are right now or which direction they are coming form or heading to. by the way this is Unit 9, here in New Mexico

I talk alot with a guy who hunt unit 9 alot and he tells me most are on the reservation. He told me to hunt along the border. Don't think I helped, but all of my hikes and turkey hunts I have never seen one. Good luck.

actually that does help, I was out by the WMA this last weekend and found a small herd. unfortunately they were on private land and then moved onto the res. apparently there is also some sort of bad ju-ju betweeen the rivate land owners and the game and fish department right now and I was denied access to the private land. I'm going to keep scouting the area but right now it looks like I may be heading to the canadian river canyon out by Roy.

If you want some company give me an email and I am only an hour and half away. I have been wanting to do a little more exploring anyway.
Take care,

Just thought I'd share an update. found the herd there's about thirty of them with a couple large rams running with them. I got real lucky and found the owner of the land between the natl. forest and the Bar L ranch, he needed some work done on his house and has given me access to his land; which is where they are running lately. he's even gonna provide guide service up and out. But the real beauty is he's going to allow my brother and I a private land dear tag for each of us in addition to the sheep tags.
