A friend wanted me to take care of a predator problem on his farm. I was also testing another freinds 30-378 wby. This gun was a monster, has well over 2000 ft lbs energy at 400yds. Shot the coyote in the spin at 412yds and ripped the yote in two.
30-378 wby, nice round but to much for me. I'll stick with the 06 |

Its the truth. The yote looked like a spot in the scope. I just held on the spot and squeezed. I new the gun was capable of staying plenty flat out to those ranges. I was only concerned with my steadiness. The 30-378 doesnt start to drop until at least 400yds. My buddy had this gun in lay-away for a century or two

The weatherby site states that it drops 7.5" at 400 yds but with a HUGE 300 yd zero. Gravity drops it the same as any other calibre. The difference is that it travels farther each second.

It shot plenty flat for me to take a yote at 400yds regardless of what any of your stats say. Experiemce out performs any of your paper BS. I know what happened and how it happened and ILL do it again for anybody who dont B leave. And in actuality 400yds is not a bad shot if your zeroed in properly and I emphasis properly. My 30.06 is zeroed in at 200yds and im positive she can make a 400yd kill easily

I was not stating that you did not make the shot just that the 30-378 cannot be called flat out to 400 yds nor can any calibre. Every calibre deals with gravity. This is fact not "paper BS". Your 30-06 is very capable of making 400 yd shots zeroed at 200yds but it will have about a 2 foot hold-over. This is not "paper BS". It will drop that much.
