I'm thinkin that a 150-160 gr bullet would be good...but what bullet?
With what powder?

I have a preference to any of the bonded core, partition or failsafe/barnes type bullets.
I get good consistent loads with reloder and hodgedon powders.
Federal's 215 primers work well for the capacities of the Weatherby catridges.
None of these are absolutes.
If you have the reloading equipment. Start with a couple of current manuals from manufacturers of the bullet you deside to use. Nosler Partition - Nosler Manual. Read to understand the processes and why's. Use the components for the formula in the manual, exactly as it's given. When you get acquainted with the process you'll get a better understanding.

It sounds as though you are just starting out. A good general bullet to start with would be the 150 gr Nosler Partition in front of Hodgdons H1000 or Alliants Reloder 22 and Remington 9-1/2M primers.

Thanks fuzzy-That is correct-I'm just starting out. Been looking on ebay for RCBS loading pres Etc. Lost out on a bid for some RCBS 7mm WM dies (dang it).

Since its dayview, 140-gr. or 150-gr. Nosler AccuBonds are now being used by many 7mm hunters for everything.

Stay away from bullets lighter than 140 grains. For deer, consider the 150 grain bullets the maximum bullet weight, going higher gives you too much penetration.

Does anyone out there reload this cartridge. I'm finding it's a bit rare out there.
I was very impressed with the performance of weatherby factory ammo out in the field over the Labor day weekend with 140 Gr. NP's. Does the 7mm reload well?? I have heard around and about that a person is better off with factory ammo when it comes to 7mm wm....is this true???? Why couldnt I just copy their recipe when I get my weatherby guide to reloading their magnums in the mail?

I know it is easier to reload than the 7mm Remington Ultra Mag. It is also more efficient. I don't know why someone would tell you that you're better off buying factory ammunition rather than reloading. They may simply be inept at reloading belted cartridges in general.

I was hoping you'd say that Cpt. Obvious. Since I have some reloading stuff on the way from ebay. Is there a problem reloading magnum cartridges with a standard press? I read that blub about the rock chucker press and the announce it "as being better suited to today's modern magnums" whatever that means...seems to me (other than WMS's) they have been around too long for an announcment like that.

Apparently some people have had problems with resizing, and swelling out around the belt, but I've never encountered any problems like this. I suspect a lot of it is due to some reloaders ignoring pressure signs, only to encounter complications during resizing.

In my opinion, the belted versus nonbelted debate is just plain absurd. I have no trouble at all with belted cases. Just follow the generally accepted reloading guidlines and you're do fine.

The 7mm Weatherby Magnum seems to do its best when loaded with H-1000, IMR-7828, H-870, and similar powders. Ballistically, it's just about identical to the 7mm STW.

This is my first post and seems an opportune time. I've reloaded my 7WM for about 15 years with RCBS Reloader. Use mainly Barnes X bullet w/175gr and recently 160 gr, and a bit with Nosler Partition. H4831 powder, 70 gr. and have had good results. I went to the 200 yd. range yesterday with the new Barnes Triple Shock and was able to get 3" groups, should have done better but the shooter (me) kept moving.

There was a guy there who said he had almost all the Weatherby calibers and preferred to use Hornady bullets (Interbond) w/ R22 powder. He said Roy Weatherby designed his rifle for Hornady bullets because Hornady was his best buddy. I'm going to give it a try someday, but like I said, the Barnes X works well and has killed 4 bull elk from 100 - 300 yards out.

Read up on some recommendations from the pros and non-pros and find what works for you. I have yet to trim a case but I have around 200 cases. I enjoy reloading and it saves money, plus I know what goes into the load. Good luck and have fun.

I would pick the 160 Nosler Part and IMR 4350 @ 61.0 for the 7mm Mag. Great combo!

Awful old subject but I just finished reading a great piece on bullet failure in the Africa part of "Graybeardoutdoors". The Hornady Interbond and Swift bonded core seem to be the bullet's to beat. The largest ammount of failures on African game come's with the Barnes X. You guy's might want to go there and read it.

I've never reloaded any Weatherby but have a theory on magnums. They are best when used to deliver extrodarnary power at normal ranges rather than normal power at extrodary range. Therefor in magnums I have loaded for, 7mm Rem and 338 Win, I always opted for the heaviest and tuffest bullets. In the day's I did those, I used only Speer Hot cores, a bonded bullet. Shot into dry newapaper, they never came apart and alway's maintained 85% or better of their weight. That at 100 yds.
