I don't understand why, in the forum index, "Stone" isn't listed under sheep. C'mon, there's four types, not just the three listed. People dont hunt them that much anymore because you'll pay a minimum of $20,000 for a two week hunt, but that doesn't mean they still don't exist...

By the way, I added "Stone sheep" to the poll 4 times, but it still didn't show up. So... guess I cant fix that.

I took my Stone in BC just north of the headwaters of the worm river,beautiful landscape,i saw grizz and some great bull elk while I was there.

Yeah, I woudn't mind a Grand Slam. Except it's a once in a lifetime thing to even draw a desert bighorn tag, let alone kill a record book ram. Unless, of course, you're willing to pay at least $100,000 for a governors tag. Then you need around $25,000 for your stone sheep, and the list goes on...

A very expensive endeavor, yes. Now concerning the guy who killed his sheep at the head of the Worm River, how far is that from either the Prophet or Muskwa Rivers? According to Jack O'Connor, those are the best places in the world for big stone sheep. When I get $25,000 I'll book a hunt with Jim Shockey and bag me a ram!!!

red rabbit don't be so negative. start young and get bonus points. A friend of mine was able to draw a desert bighorn tag in nevada. he put in for 8 years. It can and will be done. just start putting in for every state and accumulate the points. a little luck would be good to.

got a rocky mtn bighorn, going for dall next year. I guess i will have to work a little smarter to afford the stone.

Yes sir, accumulating points is a great idea!!! I have decided that whenever I put in for a tag out West, I'm going to use Cabela's TAGS system, and for like a little upwards of $50, you just fill out four simple sheets and they do the rest...

I am gonna try and accumulate points in both Colorado and Arizona for elk. Because sheep hunting is rather expensive, and I'm only 14, I found a friend and former elk guide who will guide me, prepare my meat, clean my rifle, and everything else except shine my boots :D And after that I only have to give him half the meat, which in the first place I wouldn't eat it all anyways.

He said Colorado usually takes 2 years to draw, and he said that if I ever draw a tag for Arizona, I'm not leaving without a big bull!!!

I would consider putting in for sheep, but I'm not totally sure how that system works. Do they keep your points forever if you put in one year and then dont put in for another 5 years or something? Also, do you draw for a tag and then book a hunt with an outfitter? Is there any outfitters that get gaurenteed tags like they do for elk and the like?

Most bull elk tags in Colorado are OTC (over the counter), only a few select units are by draw & a couple can take up to 14-16 years to draw. Colorado has an abundance of elk, so right now would be a great time to hunt elk here. The western Colorado herds are huge and need to be reduced dramatically.

Now for the sheep, you would need to check with each state's regs.

If you're serious about hunting the western states I would recommend reading up at all the DNR/DOW websites and/or requesting that state's brochures & studying them.
