I have been doing a lot of research and I think I am going to buy a Burris
3.5X-10X-50mm Fullfield II LRS scope for my 300 RUM. I think it will be good for elk hunting this year. |

The Fullfield II is an excellent scope. I'm 95% sure it can handle a 300 RUM's recoil, but it wouldn't hurt to see what Burris says.

I think the burris is a fine choice and should handle the recoil. I put the Leupold VX-II on my 300 rum because of the longer eye relief. Make sure the Burris has generous eye relief because I have heard horror stories about getting recoil kissed by the RUM.

If in doubt, pay a little more and get one of the burris scopes with posi-lock. The posi-lock was specifically designed for high recoil/jarring cartridges, it is additional set of screws/springs that locks down the reticle after sighted in.

I think I will definitly have to get one with posi lock. It never hurts to have a little extra assurance.

Special wipes for cleaning eye glasses also works fine, Leupold sells their own brand of scope lense cleaners that is the same for glasses with a different label on it.

Milliondollar, just as 147 grain said, any top quality eye care cleaner will work. Also, I have a friend who has the same scope and he had a smear on his but it was on an inside lens surface. Not a problem that Leupold can't fix but a pain in the @$$. I have several Leupolds (Vari-x iii)and can see them going downhill a bit in quality control but I trust them with my life as I have never had one fail me. Until they let me down I will continue to use them.

I like the scope I've had it on the same gun (rem 30-06) for at least ten years and it's still right on.My friend got a new Nikon last year ,when looking thru it it seems more brighter in low light

The Nikons are brighter for sure but I trust the leupold to go through the war and back and the jury is still out on the nikon (for me atleast). Your Leupold (being 10+ yrs old) is likely the older Vari-x ii and not the newer VX-II but send it to Leupold on the off-season to have it redone. They may just switch it out for you and you would get the upgraded VX-II. :thumbsup1: ::-k

Personally, I think Simmons sucks. Every one I have had just lacked any of the lense clarity that Burris and Redfield have. Plus, you can get a good Burris 3X9 for not a whole lot more than a Simmons Aetec.
Or getcha a Leupold. |

My simmons is every bit as good as my lower end leopolds, same warranty, same light gathering, and i havnt had to adjust it in 4 years of hunting/shooting.Many brands have improved thier lines to compete with burris and Leopold, check them out.I bought my Simmons after a store owner suggested it over his leopolds forthe price range i was looking in,my next scope will also be a Simmons. :thumbsup1:

Although the overall quality of Simmons scopes has improved, especially their high-end models, I would definitely not count on it to consistently hand the recoil of a 300 RUM.
Less calibers perhaps, but not for the application in question. Stick with the Leupolds, Burris', Nikon, Weaver, or other high quality optics with a good reputation for service and you should be OK.
