Hi,
I am going on my first Elk Hunt this October in NM.I am very excited and have a good guide that will be taking me.I will be hunting the muzzleloader season October 5th-9th.As far as I know I will be in Unit 52 with a landowner tag and my understanding is that we can also hunt ajoining state property. My guide seems to know his stuff he has been doing this a long time however, any ideas or insight from you guys to make my hunt more productive and enjoyable would be great.
Thanks!

Hello WEH1970,

Congrats on the first hunt this fall! Hope it goes well for you. Since this will be your first hunt out west, I suggest you look over an article we published a few months ago about hunting in the western U.S.

Glad the article helped out. Looking forward to hearing (reading ) how it turns out.

Good luck with your hunt, it will be here before you know it!

Well, no elk (:
But I had a heck of a time.I saw elk everyday and saw several mature bulls. All the shots I had were through the brush or too far for muzzleloader.Very demanding hunt, we hunted at 10,000 feet and even for a guy like me who is in great shape, you can still really feel the lack of O2 the first couple of days.I hope to return in the future, however I may go for Mule deer in Wyoming this fall.
If you an east coast guy like me, and you have the chance to Big game hunt in the Mountains out west, DO IT!The veiws are great.
Take care.
Eric

Sounds like you had a good time even if you didn't tag out. Good luck with your mule deer hunt in WY. They are more challenging than elk in my opinion.
