I MISS ALASKA!!!!
I lived in Alaska in 96-97, and was never able to hunt, and am really kicking myself for it now. I hope to someday get to return for a hunt, or maybe just maybe get to move back. That is if mama lets me. Anyway, all of you blessed ones who do live and hunt in the Great State, enjoy and be safe. |

Totally agree. I went up ther in summer/fall of 2002.
Spent alot of time working up the nerve to move there. got as far as moving to Montana but had to come back to the farm and family in Ohio. I was finally on my way when I met a girl and well, had to put the dream away. We are recently married and she wants the hell out of this state too but Alaska's weather ain't her thing. Now we're looking at South Dakota or Kentucky. Morale: Do it or Lose the chance! |

I'll tell you guys what... I drug my feet and drug my feet for 5 years while my wife tried to move us up here. I had to leave a career and move to a place where the job market is virtually non exsistent ( you need to be a teacher, law enforcement, or work in the health care field to find a steady year round job). However, it has turned out to be the best decision I have ever made aside from marrying her. We live in the Southeast on POW Island. Here we don't have the traffic or crime you find in larger cities such as Anchorage, Fairbanks, or even Ketchikan. You could go fishing or hunting for a week and never see antoher soul. The weather is a little on the rainy side but our winters are very mild compared to the interior, it's alot like a Seattle climate. The scenery is awsome and the fishing is even better.
We are on the remote side of things without such amenities as a McDonalds or movie theaters, but that kind of stuff would ruin the type of life everyone here has become accusotmed to. It's a very simple life and a great environment to raise kids. My daughters learned how to gut and clean salmon in kindergarten, where else do you find that???
Alaska is truley God"s country! |
