Got my decoys all out, my shotgun cleaned, my ammo all packed. Damn, I'm excited about the season is finally open. Duck for dinner tomorrow night. I've got two weeks of waterfowl hunting before deer rifle season starts and the population IS going to drop. I hope I limit out fast because it is a work day but if I don't... I guess I'll take a day off.

Good Luck! I hear the flu season is in full swing in case you don't limit out fast...

Well, I've got the first day in but couldn't limit out. I got three black ducks and a mallard in about the first 30 minutes but couldn't bag the last one. They were flying in and out steady but aways out of gun range. I'll give that area a break until Sat. See you... I've got plucking to do.

I hate plucking as well, but since I can't convince the wife to do it I guess I'll have to. The blacks were the biggest ducks I have ever shot. They were huge. They doubled the size of the green head which is usually twice the size of blacks up here.

Four more today... 2 blacks and 2 ring-necks. They were all average sizes. The ring necks were probably a good size for ring-necks. I'm plucking again.

And just when I was starting to think you were a smooth talker.

Hope you had a good dinner at any rate.

LOL. She sees right through my plees. I shoot it... I pluck it... I eat it. Her job is to curse when I am gone to get more.

Well, duck is considered fine cuisine. I figured that would soften her resolve, better not push your luck though....

I just cut the brest out on mine.
That's about all there is to a duck and it saves on all of that plucking

I got my limit today, four ring-necks and a black. I'll skin the black and pluck the ringers.

Sounds like you are knocking 'em dead ChesterGolf. Do you use a dog to retrieve them in the water, or are you just good at busting 'em over land? I guess you might be a good swimmer too.

While I haven't hunted duck much, I do remember a few times having a dog that wouldn't go and get the dead ducks in the water. Sometimes it would just get "uppity", so having some waste-high waders helped getting the ducks, although I was pretty little at the time, so it was actually the grown ups getting wet.

I use a small canoe to retrieve the ducks, however, the marsh is not too deep so I could use waders. I am having a great start to the season and having a ball, but am going to shift to a new location to allow my area to settle down some. I'll be heading for the salt water marshes for a couple of trips in search of Canada geese.
