| Welcome Merike and Juan. My wife likes to hunt but she does not participate in this forum. There are a few women hunters on this forum but they may not look at the Africa section too often. I would post your thread in the anything goes section. I'm sure you would get a response there. |

I have had no replies from any lady hunters so GUYS, here is my story…
Most women in SA don’t like hunting at all. If hunting is mentioned they’ll start off on one of those lectures about it being cruel and savage etcetera, etcetera. The truth is, I used to be one of them. Coming from a non-hunting family I followed the general women’s opinion of hunting – until I met Jaun.
In time I came to respect hunters because they are the true conservationists. For the first time, I understood the philosophy of hunting and respected it greatly. I was then mentored in all aspects of hunting: rifle handling, shot placement, tracking and most importantly hunting ethics.
About two years ago an opportunity arose for me to hunt my first buck - a duiker ram on a nearby farm. I had a terrible attack of buck-fever but managed to pull off a perfect shot. As I ran towards my kill my legs could hardly carry me, breath rasping and hart pounding with adrenalin. The emotion I felt when I saw him lying there is unexplainable. I wanted to weep, scream, laugh and jump up and down at the same time. What a feeling!
The first people to ever inhabit South Africa were an indigenous tribe called The Bushmen. They were great hunters and even greater conservationists. Whenever they had made a kill they would dance and sing, thanking the spirit of the animal for its death. I am always reminded of them when I hunt. The only difference is that my thanks go to the Creator of all. The duiker’s hide lies next to my bed and every morning when I step onto it I am reminded of one of the greatest gifts to mankind – animals.

Welcome to BGH Jaun & Merike! :D
Not too many women hunters seem to get involved with online forums. They drop in from time to time, but for the most part are not regular posters. However that does not mean that American women do not hunt. On the contrary, particularly in rural areas you will find many women that hunt, or at least accompany their husbands and other family members on their hunts. I live in Colorado, and for us hunting is part of our lifestyle.
Many (maybe even most) are not trophy hunters, we simply prefer game meat to what we can buy in the grocery store.
Tell us some more stories about Africa. I enjoy reading them, and I'm sure most members here enjoy them as well. Its always fun to read about someone's personal experiences, particularly from another country. |

Hey , why this topic is dead ?
I'm a woman hunter myself - 3 years ,6 times in Africa .
My first experience was in Central African Republic , wich i think is the wildest destination to go . I hunted in Namibia and Zimbabwe and i plan to go in Mozambique or Zambia. |
