I wouldn't say that. Most are quite helpful on this board. Probably just don't have too many lion hunters here yet, especially hound hunters. So tell us more about it and I'm sure you'll get some questions & feedback.
BTW great looking hounds! |

Well I'm new here too and not into hound's much. My deal is bird dog's, GSP's and English Pointer's mostly. But dog's are dog's and I'd rather a mutt than no dog at all.
So I'm guessing, two black and tan's and a walker? When I was a kid, I'd go coon hunting with a buddies dad. He had some Plott's, a couple Walker's and an old Red Bone he dearly loved. He had one lion dog. A Walker he called "Sam". Sam was just a bit anti-social. I really never found the fun in running thru blackberry bushes in pitch black with the flashlight off to save the batteries to spot the coon in the tree. And I never really cared for eating coon either! |

| Boy that Walker shue look's pure. A well known hound man, to hound men, in western Colorado uses a lot of Plott's, so I understand. It's also claimed he run's an Airdale with them for a catch dog. Hound hunting is a sport of it's own and Oregon elimanated it for cat's and bear's. To bad. |

ASA,
Beautiful dogs! Big Cats are my primary goal as a predator caller. I would love to hunt with dogs, but dont want to get involved until I can do it right. I guess i will call them until I have enough property for the dogs to enjoy, enough time to work them like they need to be worked (ie when the kids are older). When I do get dogs, they will be Redbone or Walker Hounds. I am leaning towards redbones, but not because my research tells me they are better dogs. I just think they are gorgeous, and I read "Where the Red Fern Grows" as a kid  . To this day, it is the only book that ever brought a tear to me eye!!!! In fact, I wont read it again, even though I read it many times as a boy. I am too tough to be crying, now that I am a MAN!!!!
From your experience, can you "cross train" dogs to tree, say coons, bobcats, & lions? I see you hunt bears as well. I have read many that have dogs that will do all, but would like a more personal opinion. Is it better to leave a lion hound a lion hound, and so on? |
