I was wanting to start looking for states that have desert bighorn hunts. Does anyone know which states offer these hunts? I imagine they are all draw tags and wanted to start the research.
thanks

Here are a few states and the approx cost of the NR tag off the top of my head.
Nevada $1,200.00
New Mexico $3,010.00
Utah $1,513.00
Arizona $915.00
California $500
Other states may have populations of them but either not enough to hunt or do not allow and NR to apply for a tag. |

MNHunter named most of the states.
Texas also has desert bighorns in the western part of the state. Tags are occasionally available through a public draw, but that hasn't happened for two years now. There is one tag/hunt offered in Texas through the "Big Time Hunts" raffle program they do.
There are desert bighorn tags available in Colorado also, but they are limited to residents. |

| I stand corrected, or confused, or both. South if I-84 is desert-ISH anyway. But now I ask the question - where does the Calif Bighorn fall in the Slam? Or does it? And my second question: Tim - what will you be chasing this year? Have you latched onto another sheep tag? |

| Mexico ... now that's SOUTH-ISH. Any guide(s) you recommend? My daughter would go with me in a heartbeat - and serve as interpreter if need be. |

the california bighorn can be interchanged with the rocky mtn bighorn for the grand slam. No special tags this year yet, but i have put in for desert bighorns in other states.
tim
ps if this land deal goes thru i might look at stone sheep next year. |

| crossheartoutfitters out of montana are a very reliable source for a mexico sheep hunt, you have to contact them by phone or through thier website for the cost as it changes from year to year they film your hunt for free and have a very nice ranch in sonora mexico they use as a base.Be very careful when doing a sheep hunt in mexico and only use a US guide, many people have been burned by booking a hunt with a Mexican outfitter and then never hearing from them again, loosing thier deposit. |
