How do you bow hunt blacktail deer? Is it best to bow hunt them out of treestands stalking ect. Where do you place stands and can you pattern them?
I have scouted areas but all ive seen is does. Oregon law says you can shoot a doe or buck should I take a big doe or do you think bucks will come into the area? |

YOU ARE KIDDING RIGHT? blacktail bucks are every where in NW ORE. it sounds to me like you have been doing lots of road huntin if all you have seen are does. First you should glass some reprod cause that is probably where you would see such an animal and then you have to stalk them. Hint: you have to be quiet when you do such a thing and not be obvious to the deer you will most likley fail. most people do but keep trying and you might become sucessful. GOOD HUNTIN TO YA |

Move like a snail. If your covering more than 3' / min. Your stalking way to fast. Stay out of the dry undergrowth. Do some scouting. Look for sign. Don't leave your scent spead over the area your working. Work into the wind.
If you sense a deer in the area. Hold your position. Don't move a muscle.
If you notice a lot of movement through an area. Find a place, downwind, to take a stand.
Make sure you equipment is completely silenced.
Make sure that you have anything shiny covered. This includes your forehead, nose and your hands. Also buttons, buckles and snaps.
Most important......Don't walk around with a nocked arrow. I don't think the deer care but, you will if you slip. |
