What's so wrong with having outfitters take a written examination, pass a criminal background check, and be CPR certified in North Dakota or any other state?
If you're going to tell a collective group of hunters much like yourself to go to hell maybe you should follow up with a reason why.... |

When you state, "Access to resident hunters.." I assuming that you're referring to access to private land, such as farms and ranches, since it's illegal for G/O operations to guide on plots or North Dakota's public land.
Hunters, like tator, are quick to point fingers at Guide and Outfitters for locking up private land, but these individuals fail to recognized, that the ultimate decision of who uses the land is in the hands of the private landowners themselves.... |

Yeah tator it sounds like your blaming the general trend of the last 20 years of charging for private access on g/o's. Instead it is just private land owners wising up to the idea that people will pay (whether through hunt clubs, g/o's, land leases, or ranching for wildlife) to hunt. Unless your referring to something else....
A small minority of hunters shot us all in the foot anyway even before private land owners wised up. It only takes a few fence cutters and smart mouth trespassers to turn a farm or rancher off the idea of free access. |

| I don't think that guides are necessaryly "bad", but just not needed to hunt waterfowl and upland birds in North Dakota. There is no reason someone needs to come to North Dakota and pay someone to hunt. I think that it sucks that guides and outfitters are posting and leasing up land to hunt, and making money on land that in the past could have been hunted for free or after helping a farmer with a little work. Its one thing to not know anything about waterfowl or upland bird hunting and find someone to take you out hunting, but to pay someone, just seems stupid. The reason I don't think they are all that bad is becuase I only care about what happens in ND. I don't care about g/o's and what they do in other states, it's none my business. I just really don't see a point in having them in ND, when all a person has to do is talk to a farmer or whatever, and 90% of the time, they will let them hunt their land. I'm lucky enough to know and be related to the top 2 farmers in the county I live in, so I don't have to worry about someone ruining my hunting or anything like that. although it HAS happened FROM an outftter from our area. 1 thing that has been a problem has been the g/o's "renting" hunting land from farmers. then they have the right to post it up and no one else can touch it. If they didn't have the money/influence, that farmer would post it, find out who wants to hunt it, then let them shoot whatever they want on it.......with an exception to deer hunting of course. HOWEVER, I do see why a NR might want to use a g/o. especially if they are too lazy to get off their asses and ask permission to hunt land, which is all they'd have to do in ND. Farmers are the friendlies people I know, just need to ask and they're fine with it. But I guess that's just a little too much work for some people. this is just my .02............not trying to change YOUR opinion, just telling you mine. :wink: |

Now that's the farmers out in western ND that do that ****, you wouldn't find 1 farmer around eastern/central ND that would charge someone to hunt their land. just those farmers out in the western part of the state where the pheasant numbers are good..... |
