By the 'middle fork unit' do you mean the MF Salmon unit? As in Unit 27?
That is almost exclusively wilderness area, so anywhere you can access it is a good place to start. And you can really only access from the high ridges around the MF drainage - meaning you'll have cross though the snow. It's been snowing in the high country for a few weeks here now.
Don't get me wrong, I've hunted that unit in November before, but it's not something you just stroll into. I had to go in on snowshoes that last time! You'll need to be prepared for anything, and hopefully have horses or mules.
If you're really determined to hunt 27, you might consider flying in to one of the airstrips. Someone in Salmon should be able to hook you up with a flight. You can't hunt within a couple miles of the airstrips, but at least you'd be in the unit.
Good luck, and stay safe. |
