Has anyone hunted near Manhattan Kansas, I just got permission to hunt a tract there & I am not from the area, and wondering about the quality of deer?

I don't hunt that area, but my fiances brother-in-law lives about 30miles south of Manhattan, and he has some nice mounts (couple typical 15 pointers), which direction from Manhattan will you be hunting? Good luck! Should be some nice deer in the area...

It is about 10 miles east of there, this land hasnt been hunted in 5 to 10 years, so Im really hoping there will be some nice bucks. It borders right up to the river, will roughly 500 acres of hardwoods, pasture and rolling hills. There is no agriculture on the land, which concerns me, but hopefully they are still using it for bedding areas & travel routes.

Thanks for your help Kansas Hunter. :)

have you had a chance to scout the land much? Any evidence of natural food source (ie akorns, crab apples, etc)? Here's a decent list of plants that deer like to eat:

I'm from that area, I've hunted around there a lot. There isn't the high density of deer like in other areas, but I truley think the next world record will come from that area. There are some brutes in the Flint Hills, that is for sure.
