Came across a mountain lion stalking Bighorn Sheep. One of the rams filled my tag; in all the excitement dunno whether the lion got the other one. Is it common for mountain lion to take Bighorn Sheep? My hunting partner didn't know, but did suggest the fact the cat was onto these rams indicated he'd probably done it with success in the past.

Really neat addtion to an already great hunt. I have never had the opportunity to view the event but I have cut cat tracks in big horn country around Sun Rriver Canyon in Montana. Got any photos to share of the ram you took?

Mountain lions will regularly go after domesticated sheep. In fact get a bad one in a flock and it can be a real mess. I suspect mountain lions will go after whatever they cross paths with and it thinks has meal potential. So whether it is common (or not) would probably depend on how much their habitats mingle. A biologist in the area may be able to give you a better idea about the predation of sheep population in the area.

Talked to a hunter who got a ram in the drainage next to where my dad got his. His (the other hunter's) story is similar to mine ... big cat after his ram also. Predator zoo.
