I had a deer hide done a couple of years ago along with the head I asked the taxidermy guy how they did it . And what he told me was the send it to a commercial tannery in california took nine mos. to get it back cost like 90.00 .
I tried to do it my self but the chemicals and time and energy was more than sending it in. and most of the info I got off the net wasn't very helpful links always led to so and so's taxidermy and rthey wern't giving away free info. If you live far in the bush what about the natives gotta be some one around town that would know. I know some guys that have done it by salting the hell out of it .the instructor at a bear clinic did his bear hide with salt it looked old but was actually 2 yrs old It was a minnesota record bear weighing 520# I would have sent that one in. but to have a rug made here is $165 a foot . try it with a squirrel first
