This is hardly a surprise to us living in that part of the state. I live approx. 74 miles south of Jackson in Star Valley. Several of us have seen grizzlies up Stawberry Canyon, up the Grays River and in the hills west of the valley. Incidently wolves have also been seen up the Grays River and as far south as Cokeville (about 100 miles south of Jackson).

Welcome to the board, Andrew!
I live in Colorado and off and on follow the progress of grizzly management in Wyoming (considering it is the furthest south they get in North America. A brown bear has not been documented in Colorado for decades).
That is interesting that you and other locals have seen them either futher south. Do you think this is because of the drought (roaming for food) or just ordinary roaming? |

| I was hunting elk in Hoback Junction one year. The young guide (2nd year rookie guide) I had told me there are NO Bears in the area. Good to know I said: Then just 20 minutes later I saw a big scrape (claw marks) on an aspen tree well above my head, along with bear tracks on the horse trail we were walking down, they were I extimated to be 2 days old. I told him it was time to go back to the horses we had tied up. We were 27 miles south of Jackson Hole, Wyoming. |
