Greetings to all hunters worldwide. I am new to this forum and am sorry to see so few postings in the "Africa" forum. I am sure there are many hunters out there that can talk about their experiences in Africa and many that would like to hear all about it. My husband is very passionate about his hunting and would like to share this experience with hunters from other parts of the world. He is a registered Professional Hunter (Guide) and Outfitter. If you would like to hunt in Africa and feel you cannot afford it, maybe he can work something out for you.

Welcome Dewbridge.
I've never been to Africa but maybe someday.....
Sure like seeing pictures of the place though. There is such a variety of game there.

What kind of regulation are in South Africa?
Do you have to have tags (draw out) for hunting like is common in North America? |

Great! Thanks to all for the interest and response.
Yes, South Africa is a place of many treasures - wildlife being one. There is a large variety of game, approx. 30 species in the Eastern Cape alone. Pics of some can be seen on our site. (see my profile).
Our open hunting season is generally May to July, but permits are available at any time of the year and many ranches have certificates which permit them to allow hunting for certain species at any time.
We do not have a tag system. Private ranchers designate species available according to their own management program.
Openings? We can always make a plan - next year is still available.

Hi everybody,
I am a new entrant to this forum and this is my first post.I am particularly interested in Africa having been there twice, once as an observer and once as a hunter.I've had such a terrific experience that i would like to go there again and maybe do one or two of the big five. |

| Its nice to see that you are prepared to pay the stupid $ prices that South African farmers are asking. As a South African I see what they ask and I laugh. |

Well Macnab....You willing to take one of us for less????
Any sugestions on how we can do it for less????
The biggest part of the trip as far as I can see is.....getting there!
As far as prices go, from what I've seen you can hunt most anywhere (thats safe for an American white boy) for multiple species in Africa for less money than a guided western hunt for elk! |

We just signed on an African outfitter who offers hunts for the Big 5 and all the plains animals in South Africa.

| Like I said I know what I pay and its a fraction what you pay. We have a local hunting magazine in SA called Magnum. They had an article from an American who had just returned from a hunting trip in SA saying that South Africans see all Americans as an endless money pit and I agree. OK lets put it to the test. Plan a make believe hunt and list the costs from plane ticket and lets say 5 species of plains game and 1 cape buffalo, you can get your game pricing from any web site post your price list on the forum and I will respond. |

That is very interesting to me because, I love to dream of hunting in Africa. I am sorry to say that is out of my league, as is a western guided elk hunt! I would agree that MOST of the Americans that hunt Africa are an endless money pit. I don't know where all the money comes from but, I can tell you....I havent seen it! So. I need to be more creative than that. I look for months on the internet and make deals with people to save LOTS of money and still be able hunt in different areas. To me its not as important to get the animal that I am hunting, as it is to know that I have the chance to get him. Sometimes I get um, most times I don't. I enjoy being in a different location and try to go out of state at least once a year. Average cost is about $2000 all said and done. My brother and my father spend an average of $5,500 on thier trip to Montana every 3 years or so. I would figure that an African hunt (total low side guess) would cost about $4,000 to 5,000 dollars. If I was going it would be more like $3,500 because I would pick my trophys carefully. I would be just as happy to get a warthog (one animal I want to hunt before I die) as to get any other game you have! Of coarse while I am there if we could work out the right deal maybe, something else as well!!!
I have a very good friend that is from South Africa. I have worked with her for almost 3 years. She has family in the buisiness over there. She told me that if I ever wanted to go on a SA hunt to let her know. Maybe one day I will take her up on that but, I already have the next 2 years out of state hunts planned!
By the way I have 2 different hunts planned in Argentina for March (visiting my wifes mother, she hasn't seen her in 5 years) I worked out a deal with 2 different outfitters. One to hunt for 2 antelope for $400 and the other to hunt unlimited wild boar with dogos Argentinos for $100 each.
So...how much can YOU get me a hunt for? |

I was talking to a hunter who had some African trophys on display at a SCI booth several years ago. I asked him about these low cost hunts and what it would cost by the time all the hidden fees and transportation and the not obvious but neccessary costs were totaled up.
His answer; You won't do it for less than $10,000. You are better off paying a little more for more animals because you get more for your money. A lot of people have promised me hunts for less, but it has always ended up costing at least that much in the end.
It is a popular saying that many African hunts cost less than guided Elk hunts in the states. If so, I would more than likely go on one. I just can't believe though. |

| Ok im not going to argue my point. I shoot every year an Impala(R475.00), warthog(R350.00) and blue wilderbest(R2500.00). Per day for hunter (R175.00)and small fee for petrol for the vehicle (R100.00 split between all hunters). Now how do you explain being charged (R2000.00) for an Impala??? |
