| We have known this for some time. However, I guess they just proved it by "scientific method". I hope they come up with something more substantial before too long. This info doesn't help much. |

Don't hold your breath. Prions are not an easy nut to crack; it would not be terribly bold to say that testing/culling will be the mode of control for the foreseeable future rather than eradication by some sort of innoculation or decontamination.
At any rate it is good to see the researchers nail down this mode of disease transport. It raise more questions for me:
1.) If simply having an infected animal excrete in an area causes the area to be contaminated; what hope does culling have in controlling disease spread? In other words, if infected grounds are a primary transmission pathway, what hope does culling have in control?
2.) What level of infected crap/piss is necessary in a certain area before it is considered contaminated? How long on average does it take for the area to become decontaminated? |
