| Well, this morning's hunt was perfect. We got set up, did some tree calls, and set out a decoy, and a big jake came in. It just came right to us, and basically, I just let him have it. Then we went up to another pasture and found some more turkeys, but we couldn't get a shot at them. THat's probably where we'll set up tomorrow morning, the tom out there is probably a good 15-18 lbs. How's your season going so far? |

Captain, Actually Our Spring Gobbler season started Mar.20th. I have only been 3 times with no luck yet. The Turkeys seem to be really skiddish and somewhat scattered this year .
First saturday of the season rained pretty much all day but I still managed to get some answers from my calls but never saw anything.
Next weekend I went with my Bow for the first time and had 2 Toms come to my calls within 30 minutes of eachother but seemed skiddish of the decoy and would never come within Bow range (30 yds).
Saturday before last I went back to same spot but took the 12 ga. this time but spent the whole morning trying to get an answer to my call. Finally around 9 am I got and answer and continued cooing him in but also cooed in a friggin coyote and he pretty much ended that hunt. Couldn't locate anymore the rest of the morning. We can only hunt till 1 PM on the WMA that I hunt on.
I couldn't go last weekend but am looking foreward to this weekend which will be the last weekend till the fall. :cry: |

Update:
Went back to same spot this morning and got immediate answers to calls at daybreak. Set up with my Bow across Dim Road from where coyote spooked Tom last trip. Site is a little thicker with brush and trees but offers much better cover to make full Draw with Bow.
Everything was perfect, clear skies, warm slight, breeze and surprisingly very few 'skeeters. Everything was so quiet I could hear Turkey fly down. I clucked a few times and he came right out into the Dim Road in full strut and headed straight for the Decoy. It only took him about 10 minutes to get with-in 15 yards of me and as soon as he went behind a small tree I came to full draw and let the arrow fly as soon as he came into view again. Perfect arrow placement and he mabe flopped twice and then laid still. He aint no trophy and still pretty young but I'll bet he'll taste mighty good tonite. He weighs in at 14 lbs 10 ozs with my postal scales, with a 4 1/4" beard. First Turkey taken with my Bow. I'm excited.

On opening morning, Monday morning, I shot a jake, or small tom, not sure which it qualifies as, it weighed just over 11 lbs, I also lost my decoy in the process. Then Wednesday morning, I shot a tom that weighed 23 lbs, and had a long beard, it spurred me when I grabbed its feet, tore my camo up a fair bit. There's still one more tom I'm after, but it doesn't look good.
Congrats on that first archery gobbler! That's something to be proud of for the rest of your life. |

Well our season has been goin great. We got 2 big Toms with 10.5 inch beards. Plus we got one 29 LBs with a really killer beard.
Im still waitin for my big Tom. I spoted the one i want just a few days ago hes got two 8 to 9 inch beards.
Well i hope everyone else has a great season. |

| Ok, I was WRONG! The 15-18 lb turkey up on the hill is probably in excess of 25 lbs! I got a very close look at him this morning, but I didn't have a gun. I did have my specs though, and he looks to have 1-1/2+ inch spurs and a beard that almost touches the ground. I have 6 days, and he is going down! |

I got one last tues. 20.25 lbs w / a 9.5 in beard & 3/4 in spurs.

I also got one this mon. a 18.5 lb bird with a 9 in. beard & 3/4 in. spurs.
