Well, now that I've had the opportunity to shoot this long barreled 270wsm. The thrill of the long barrel is gone. I want to start using it for the mulies over on the eastern portion of the state. Just too much barrel to carry around.
I dropped it off at the gunsmith a couple of hour ago to have the barrel lopped to 26" with an 11% crown.
It was shooting Hornady 130gr Interbonds and 140gr Nosler Accubond at 3 shots the size of a dime. We'll see what it does when I get it back.
It should shoot as well but it's going to be easier to carry all day. It's by far the steadiest holding rifle I've ever owned. |

| Should keep the same amount of accuracy, as long as the rifling around the new muzzle crown is as good as the old. |

Yea, I'm sure it will.
It's a real looker with the custom stock, I'm proud to say, I did the work on.
Dark walnut with wenge accents (african wood that looks similar to a darkened zebra wood) and 20 lpi checkering.
Dark brown Decelerator recoil pad and a 3x-9x 40 Burris sitting in medium rings.
I don't get it back until the 28th of July. That'll give me enough time to set some good loads. |

| That's the same exact scope that I like to use! |

Other than target scopes. I've never used anything bigger than 2x-7x 32 on my hunting rifles until I purchased the 3x-9x 40 Burris.
The 270 wsm looked like it deserved a 3-9. I spent a couple of days looking at various scopes. Was on my way down to the store to get another Leupold in 3x-9x and a friend mentioned that I should look at the Burris first.
I ended up with the Burris. Very nice scopes. It just happened to be on sale, at that time, for almost half of what I was going to spend on the Leupold. I'm very satisfied with the Burris. |

| I love it that you can see your groups on a target from 100 yards away with the Burris. I also own a Zeiss, and the Burris is about as clear as even that. |

The Burris I bought is every bit or more the quality of the much more expensive brands. Multi coated lenses and one piece tube. I can't justify spending 3 or 4 times the money for "a better scope".
Not that it will be any help in the field but, it also came with a lifetime warrantee.
As yet, I haven't found a reason that I shouldn't have bought it.
It fits that rifle like it was designed for it.
I sure like the way those 140 gr Accubonds fly out of the barrel of the 270 wsm. It's definitely a 300 yard rifle. That's all I need.
I'm also planning on working up a load with the 140 gr Trophy Bonded Bear Claws. I'd like the extra insurance when/if I take out for a Rocky Mountain Elk. |

That would be cool to take a big elk with your custom rifle. I had thought about a Leupold or something similar, but my friend got a Burris and once I had looked through that thing, there was no turning back.
On my 7 Mag, I put it on there with a strong one-piece mount. |
