A lot of other people like the 300 but until they get moose in NC id stick with the 3006.I shoot a 270 but a 3006 has served me well in the past.

STICKUM; :D
thanks for the reply
I guess that is why they have tags offered in other states so you can expand your hunting options- even though the 300 Win. Mag. 8) is also used to hunt Whitetail- 'you mentioned moose I believe NC is alittle bit warm for their liking'
so what area do you hunt in?
I now own Winchester Model 70 in 30-06, 300 Win. Mag., 7mm Rem 8) 8) 8)
'I bought the 300 for Elk hunting'
I used my 300 Win. Mag. last season in Tenn. 8) it has just a little more push power then my 30-06
shoots of 400 yds and more are common
I did manage to get 2 Deer with it 8)
I figure if I can kill a small Whitetail with it then an Elk in is the bag!
:D

I hunt anson ,richmond and montgomery in North Carolina but i also hunt alote around columbia SC . I saw you were from NC and thought you were going to use the 300 as you only deer gun.once a buddy of mine shot a small doe with a 300 win with ballistic tips.he brought her to me to clean.the only meat left for eating was hind quarters.

Stickum :D
so how is the hunting in your area- I note you have one area with the rifle season is oct to jan that looks good to me ! 8)
do you hunt bow muzzle and rifle or only one ?
how did you do last season ? :o
I did do some hunting in SC -around Bamberg was a long way to go
did not go back since to license fee went up
you mentioned that a friend used a 300 to shoot a doe- blew her up !
I have found the only bullet you need is -
1. the bullet holds together when it hits something
2. you need just enough fps impact to get inside the animal
3. bullet stays in and churns up heart/lungs
4. does not need to blow the animal off its feet

Whtailtaker I hunt all 3 bow ,black ,powder ,and rifle so i get to start in september I did pretty good last year .I killed 3 with a bow nothing real big .my black powder season sucked i dont believe i even saw a deer that week.then i killed 6 with the rifle one of the a real impressive 12 pt.We have lots of deer here but my 12 pt was a rare find. Most of our buck are scared to death by the dog hunters here.after the first couple of week they start only moving at night.
