I don't know if any of you have gotten the E-Mail with the story and pictures of the giant bear or have heard about it from someone, but just in case I'll post about it.
A guy was hunting blacktails up in Alaska, I beleive he works for the Fish and Game up there, when he was charged by a behemoth of a bear 50 yards away. He was carrying a 7mm mag and unloaded it on the bear before it dropped only feet away, still alive, so he put one more round into its head.
It turns out the bear had killed a hiker 3 days earlier and had eaten the man's lower half clean down to the bone. The hiker had a .38 pistol(or revolver, I don't remember off the top of my hide) and hit the bear 4 times before the bear finally killed him. I'm assuming this is why the bear charged the unter to begin with, protecting the corpse.
The bear came out to be 1,600 pounds, 12 feet 6 inches at the shoulder if he was standing and 14 feet tall from feet to had if standing. If the bear were standing on all fours it would be eye to eye with you(I'm assuming they are talking about the average height of a man, around 6 feet I beleive) and you would only stand to its belly button if it were standing. It could also see OVER a typical one level house.
The E-Mail I got has a far better telling of it all than I, along with 3 pictures. Two with the bear and the man that shot it and one of the eaten man. The bear will be mounted and placed in the Anchorage airport as a warning to people that nature is indeed a large, powerful and deadly thing. If you want me to forward the e-mail to you, leave your e-mail here, if that is permitted in the rules. If not my MSN is drizztx16@hotmail.com, just message me asking me to forward the message to you. A warning though, the third picture of the half eaten hiker does show genitalia though it isn't obvious really in the mess that was eaten. The bear is the largest Brown Bear ever recorded in history as well. |

Welcome aboard!
The bear and hunter in the pictures are real, the mauling is not. The bear, while certainly massive, is not as large as discussed in the email. The email is an urban legend, started in fact and then passed around so many times the true story has been all but lost.
The real story is here. |

| Darn, I thought it was real, it would indeed be an amazing bear if it was so. Oh well, hehehe. |

I can't believe how many differient versions of that story I have heard over the past couple years. Its nice to know the real story. Either way its still a huge bear.

The guy unloaded a 7mm Mag Semi-auto into the bear and it dropped a few feet from him. The thing was still alive so he reloaded and capped it in the head. It was over one thousand six hundred pounds, 12'6" high at the shoulder. It's a world record. The bear had killed a couple of other people. Of course, the game department did not let him keep it. Think about it. This thing on it's hind legs could walk up to the average single story house and look on the roof at eye level.

| If you look really close at the true scenery (not the victim) you will notice the plants. Palm fronds don't grow out of doors in Alaska..... |
