Man... that is some scary crap. I black bear hunt and am saving for a griz. hunt in BC or Alaskan brown bear hunt in AK. It is funny that with the best guns in the world you still have to wonder who the true hunter is. We do it enjoyment, the bears do it for survival.

Yeah, got to be careful in bear country, and then some times that isn't even enough.

Unit5a just posted a link in the black bear forum about a baby that was killed in NY by a black bear. Mom and kids out for a walk... sad...

That is some kinda crazy story! I guess it goes to show you that when it is not your time, you aren't leaving! It also shows that no matter the weaponry, the man or circumstances, we are in their home, and when we do that, we take the risk of becoming dinner...I cannot imagine the horror of that, being mauled by a large Brownie. THank GOd he had the presesnce of mind to respond as he did!!

i wonder if after 4-5 each from a .40cal glock they would still be chewing or not? just seems like a side arm would be prudent in predator country......

Either empty the Glock or leave it home. Heavy hard cast bullets usually 44 Mag or better please.

Even the people who grew up out there in the bush make mistakes. Glad he's alive after getting mauled. Very heroic sounding article. Can't say that I'm sold on that is just how it happened exactly as it happened, but then, we won't ever know. Wish the writer had put down just the facts and not made it so glamourous. But then, that isn't "great outdoors writing".
