This sounds similar to a poaching incident they had on an elk they found in the desert north of Beatty. I believe it was back in the late 80's or early 90's. This particular time they found the body and the head in separate locations.
The game dept. figured the poachers were trying to get away with the head and were either spotted or got uncomfortable with it. It wasn't very far off the highway.
The article I read stated that it would have been the Nevada state record elk, at that time. |
