Does anyone here have any experiance with these dogs? I will be hunting in Argentina with 2 different people that breed and hunt these dogs. To both of these men these dogs are the pride of thier life. I have been invited to hunt with one guy for free (he posted a message in spanish and I answered, it was on swap hunts) The other guy tried to make some money off me after I answered an add to hunt boars for $100 each. After I talked to him a few times he tried to set up packages to hunt all kinds of animals on his "hobby" ranch but, I said I answered an add for $100 boars and thats it. Well I'm still going. I hope he don't set them boars on me!
Anyway, my question is this, I have no experiance with hogs and have only been on 1 bear hunt with dogs (5 days).
Are these dogs good enough to hold that boar so I can kill him with a knife? (I think he's saveing money on bullets!) and does anyone know where I can find a good picture of a wild hog (mean and nasty.....and not Rosie O'Donnel either)
I realize that these dog's are worth a lot of money and the crack about saving money was just that a joke.

You are one lucky man!! I have hunted behind several dogos and they are hell on a boar that is for sure! If you are traveling to Argentina then I would worry more about you being able to keep up with their style of hunting rather than the dogs being able to hold the boar. Those dogs hit like freight trains and they hold on until the hog is dead and their master has either choked them off or broke them off. Come on over to Tx-Outdoors message board. We have several dogo hunters who post there and they sing the praises of them all the time. I personally don't have one, but I would if I had the time and money.

Main reason why they're not used on hogs as often in the US is because of their price tag: $1000-2000 per pup! Hopefully they may be going down in price soon because the same thing happened to the American Bulldog breed..now you can get a dog for $300. You still will have to run bay dogs with the dogos because they do not bark on track or bark when they see hogs. Basically they're running catch dogs. It's better if you try pit bulls. They're cheaper. I would love to own a dogo some day but a lot of American bloodlines of dogos don't hunt..I know of maybe two people who actually hunt with their dogos. Be cautious about buying a dogo. Same thing with american bulldogs. I've had quite a few have temperment problems or simply be too big to be able to work a hog properly or overheat due to the shortness of the muzzles. I had to weed thru a few. Now I don't have any catch dogs.
