This is ridiculous. You can check firearms in your bag on an airline, but not on Amtrak. The excuse they give? They can't screen the bags. What a crock. Whenever I've flown with firearms, I had to fill out the TSA form, put a copy in the gun case, and stand there while the TSA guys open and inspect the case. This is a case of an anti-gunner running Amtrak that just doesn't want guns on his trains.

| If they can't scan the bags then what to stop you or me from packing one in our luggage??? The US post office states the same thing about carrying a firearm inside a USPS facility. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Amtrak is on it's way out. No one has the amount of money it would cost to bring rail travel back to the same glory it enjoyed in the good old days. Let them try an enact policy now that they a mere footnote in passenger travel, if it makes them feel big and important. Their days are numbered. |

| Is it still? I know that for many decades the DOD was also subsidizing it, not sure about currently. Right now their passenger routes are too limited to even bother considering it for travel. |
