| Hi - I'm visiting Canada September next year from the UK (mainly Vancouver Island but can get to BC) and would love to shoot a caribou or moose on a horseback stalk. Problem is..... I really only want to be out for 2-3 days as it's not my wife's idea of a holiday!! Any ideas, help, advice, recommendations??????? Cheers, Scrapcat |

Welcome to the forum.
That'll be a tall order. First of all, I'm not 100% sure but I believe that moose are out of season during that period, which eliminates them as a "hunting" option.
Caribou are typically only found in the arctic: Nunavut, NWT, Quebec. There are Woodlawn/Mountain Caribou which I would assume are in far northern BC and I would just forget about them.
Moose would be a "better" bet (if they are in season), but you'll probably need 2-3 days travel to get into the interior or north (a day travel there and a day travel back) from the island where they're more common.
Are you planning to hunt them or just photo/see them. If you're looking to see a moose I'd head for one of the mountain national parks like Yoho. That's your best bet and there will be several outfitters who will offer horseback expeditions.
Hunting....lets just say with that timeframe the odds are against you. Sorry.

| No problem. One thing that the Island does have is very good Black Bear hunting, if you're interested in that - it might be more achievable. Your chance of success would still be severly hampered by your time constraints, but it would be possible. |
