October 2009 Feature Article:

Whitetail Scents & Sensibility

"Always hunt into the wind" - Sage words of wisdom, this is perhaps the single most important tip any neophyte hunter learns at the outset of their hunting career. Deer rely heavily on their sense of smell. So it stands to reason that if we're to avoid detection, we should use the wind in our favor. Combine this with the appropriate use of scents or scent-blockers, and you're off to the races! Read more...

I have seen a few people that get carried away with scent blockers. I had one guy out at the ranch, that after all the scent blockers and attractants he used, He smelt like a Florida Swamp in KANSAS.

I would he rather just go find Some Cow S--t and , well you know.

I read this article by DR Karl V Miller from University of Gerogia, Its great that we have some great people continuing to do research, on the animals we have been hunting for years. Its called Deer Talk with their Noses.
Check it out.

I use scent blockers religiously in WA and have since my bow hunting friends told me I had to. Spent both early and late season hunting in Eastern WA and havent filled my tag yet, but spent 10 day in Northern MN with my family in the Deer Shack and I smelt like a huy who'd spent 8 days in a Deer Shack with 3 other guys when I took my buck there. I think they have their place but nothing just being straight downwind.
