Please help me - My hunting trip is in 12 days and my Tasco just broke!
I've narrowed down my search to the following two options:
1. Burris Fullfield II, 3x9x40, 3.1 to 3.8 eye relief... $199 (Cabelas.com)
2. Leupold VX II, 3x9x40, 3.7 to 4.7 eye relief... $269 (Cabelas.com)
Please look at Burris website:

It gives a comparison of Burris Vs Leupold. Of course it's bias... But Burris says their scope has 95% light vs 87% of Leupold. I want someone who's had experience with either of these two models. Has anybody had problems? Which do you prefer?

| both are good.But... I have leupold on all my rifles never a problem. Would never have anything eles. Good luck on your hunt. |

| I've always used a Leupold (VXII and VXIII). I've never had a single problem. The Burris site compares the VXII, but not the VXIII (which is supposed to let in more light). It costs more, but don't skimp on your optics whichever scope you choose! Your rifle is only as good as the optics you put on it. An $800 rifle + a $40 scope = a $40 setup. |

Unfortunately, there's NO WAY I can afford a VXIII. If you had to choose between a VXII or the Burris... what would you do?

Yeah VAYoungBuck. I leave the mountains of northern AZ to come to the hardwoods of VA tomorrow morning. My Dad and I have had a cabin there for about 20 years and I've hunted there almost every year since I was 14. I'll be over in Highland County, adjacent to the GW National Forest.
I'm looking to lay down a turkey, a couple of deer (blackpowder), and a bear in the 10 days I'll be hunting. I hear that there is a really nice acorn crop there this year. This should keep the nice buck in the mts and out of the fields along the roads where road-hunters can get a crack at them. |

I hunt in Highland all the time. Me and my dad lease land in Highland right on the West Virginia-Virginia border. I live only about an hour away from there. There is a great acorn crop this year. I've got 2 deer so far this year; a doe with my bow and muzzeloader season came in over in eastern VA Saturday and I got a nice 6 pointer. Maybe I'll see ya around in Highland in the next couple weeks. Let me know how you did.

| Our place is in Headwaters (between Calf Pasture and Bull Pasture Rivers on the top of the mountain). I can't wait to get there. I noticed the muzzleloader buck season starts on Saturday this year and bear will be in for a few days the following week. So much game, so few vacation days. Good luck this year!! |

Yeah, the seasons come in on Saturdays now buy you might want to double check the bear season. During muzzeloader season you can only shoot bears east of I-81. I don't think you can shoot bears in Highland untill Nov.22. I have two places in Highland that I hunt and both of them are only 6 or 7 miles from Headwaters

I would definitely go with the Leopold over the Burris. And I also would not concern myself over it being a VariX II instead of III.
I have 3 Leopolds. 2 VariXII's are over 20 years old. My VariXIII was bought in 97 and is on a .300 Win. Mag.
I have compared them side by side and used both extensively both here in the dark woods and in the West. I am sure there is something different you are paying for with the Vari X III but I sure can't see what it is. |
