| both shots seem to be equal in the quickness of the kill. if you shoot both lungs, the oxygen can't get to the heart to pump it to the brain. if the heart stops the oxygen doesn't get to the brain. the heart may be a little quicker but it is a much smaller target and easily missed or just grazed. Ii would definatly reccomend the double lung any day. it all depends on how confident you are with your bow in field conditions. almost anyone can hit a still target in their back yard at ground level when their adrenalin is not pumping. if it is your first kill with a bow then definatly double lung. well i strayed from the topic. sorry. the heart is slightly quicker depending on if you tear it to pieces. |

A deer will definately go down quicker than if you get both lungs. If you can't breath, you can't run. A heart shot deer won't go very far either(obviously). |

I've placed many bullets that pulverized both the heart and the lungs of various deer, elk, and pronghorn. A few of those suckers were still able to run for another 50 to 70 yrds approximatley before dropping. After many years of biggame hunting, bleed-out has proven to be what kills, does not matter what you are using, arrows or bullets. |

I agree!
Sometimes it jump starts them and they take off flying till they are done.
Other times it drops them right there and then if you presue them before they expire instinct kicks in and they take off on a dead run.
Both are faital wounds! |

| In MANY kills with Bow I have seen that usually a double lung has a tendency to drop them faster. PLUS if it doesnt drop right away the double lung ALWAYS leaves a better blood trail with the spray. Just think about it like this... Imagin you just had the wind knocked out of you. Granted deer are MUCH tougher than we are but its still the same principle. Taking away the air creates more shock. And also as newtothegame said, its also a much larger target. Good luck |

| If you ever look at the anatomy of a deer and where the lungs and heart are located on both a broad side and a elevated shot you would never just try for the heart. On a broad side shot it is partially protected by the front leg and sits low and forward in the chest cavity. The lungs on the other hand can be hit fairly easy, also if you hit a little far back you also have the liver witch is almost as good as a lung shot. You just have to wait for a little while longer before you start to track. |

If you heart shoot or double lung a deer i will guarantee they will be done in under a minute, BUT they can move a long way in a minute. Give them a little time before you go looking..... |

I agree with the double lung shot theory for sure as I haven't shot a deer yet with my Bow. BUT what does everyone think of a surgical shot of directly on the neck ? I shot most of my deer with a rifle in the neck and all of them have gone down instantly... can this be done with a BOW ?

How precise can you shoot your bow? A rifle bullet to the neck usually kills with kinetic energy and if it doesn't kill the deer it will temporally paralyze it if it doesn't do any damage to the spinal column. Now with an arrow to drop him in his tracks you would need to hit the spinal column and you only have two large arteries to hit to have a short tracking trail. There are too many ifs for a neck shot. The double lung or a shot a little high and back will hit the liver witch means a dead deer in a short time and you have a much larger target to err on. |

Thanks for the reply ,,,,,,, I understand the kinetic energy theory, I just would like to stop them in there tracks. the vitals are the area to shot at..... for sure....and I'm ready to track with my new Gerber Blood tracker....

I took a big eight this year with my bow double lung shot and he went down in thirty yards 200 lbs dressed. One year I took a three point with the bow 140lbs dressed, I took the top off the heart and double lunged him and he went 100 yards . so I gess it just depends on the deer.
