We see that question asked a lot on all the shooting sites. What dom I get my kid? We hear answer's from reasonable up to 30-06. That's a lot of cartridge for a youngster to start with. Well today I proved to myself that it doesn't have to be.

I got my bullet casting mold and sizing dies yeaterday and put some 180gr bullet's thru my 30-06 today that my 7 yr old, 50# grand duaghter could fire easily!

It for some reason never dawned on me how soft a large rifle could shoot with the right cast bullet's. And at under 100yds, these loads I shot today would probably do a good job on snall deer. 184gr bullets at around 1600-17oofps. And those are very light loads. I have no doubt I can get them to 2000fps and have data that will send them at over 2500fps.

Another good point is that when I got home clkeaning the rifle was a breeze. Couple wet patches with Hoppe's and a few dry patches. No copper fouling and not a trace of leading in the barrel! Whole set up to make the bullet's and size them cost me something around $60 or less including shipping from Midway.

I do have some questions about the loads out to a guy I know of that does a lot of bullet moulding and hunting with those loads. Anyone intrested I'll go into the bullet's and what my questions are deeper.

I don't cast bullets; however I thought much beyond ~1200fps (depending on barrel length) at the muzzle you start hitting the melting lead bullet problem. Do you put a gas check on your bullets?
