No I am not talking about the forum.
I just finished six weeks of guiding bear hunters and am now getting ready for deer season (no guiding this year.....yeeha.....just hunting) and winter. Anyways, I have been out with my wife every evening this week while she looks over bears for just the right one and it dawned on us that it was deadly silent at a time of year when there should be US bird hunters banging away like crazy.
I live in a premium area for ducks and geese, and we get guys driving all the way from Texas to hunt around here. Outfitters come to the area from Winnipeg with bird hunters...............but it is silent.
Now you know things are bad when our US friends can't even afford a do-it-yourself bird hunt. People we know at gas stations, hotels, lodges and restaurants are all reporting the same thing. No customers.
Now I will admit I don't mind the peace and quiet  but I have never seen it this bad. Hunter numbers have been dropping steadily over the last decade and it has been noticeable, but to go out when the birds are flying and spend an entire evening without hearing the 'pop' of a 12 gauge is pretty disturbing. |
