Nice to see the leading democratic candidates backing off gun control issues. Maybe the party is finally starting to get the message that gun control does not equal less crime.

Any sceptics of this new Democrat position?

I'll bite on that one. In my opinion, the Democrats have a long history of adjusting their stances to whatever they think will get them elected. Look at their records and you'll see a lot of Democrats flip flopping all over the place attempting to sound like they have the answers. This trend has become much more pronounced and transparent since the Democratic party sold its soul to the Clintons.

So I'm extremely skeptical. They're desperately trying to regain power in Washington, and if they do there's not a doubt in my mind that they'll introduce all sorts of new gun control legislation. If you doubt me, look at who's calling the shots nowadays. In the wake of 9-11 and the 2002 elections, Democratic leadership has made a conscious decision to move the party farther to the left -- Nancy Pelosi's election as House Minority Leader is a case in point. Note also the chummy relationship between Hillary and Chuck Schumer. By 2008 you'll see Hillary ascend to Democratic leadership and the liberal agenda will rise again -- and gun control will be right there with it.

Seems to be a general flaw in all politicians. I'm just waiting to hear how the terminator plans to rescue CA's fiscal budget while holding to his "campaign" of no new taxes and even repealing a few.... Blustering is par for course these days.

By the extreme-left, I too doubt that gun control will be dropped as a politicial issue. However I think what this is trying to point out is that "moderate" democrats may be dropping gun control as a platform issue or away from it completely. Perhaps even a majority of democrats are willing to take this moderate position, which would be a significant shift in posture. Guess we'll just see if they deliver on their talk...
