Well I did make it up to the Northwest Territories in late spring and took a huge old wood bison bull. For those that care about such things, he is a silver medal...almost gold for SCI and is nip and tuck for B&C. The bull was estimated at 12-14 years old and probably would not have made another winter. His horns are heavily broomed, which is why he may not make B&C...........an ancient old warrior and I am tickled with him.
My .375 H&H was down for the count for some modifications so I took my custom .340 Roy based on a Sako action and used 225 grain Barnes TSX. As expected the TSX performed flawlessly..............complete pass through and he was down for the count inside of 30 yards after taking off the top of his heart. Blood actually blew three or four feet out of the entrance hole. |

| Saskie.................I do have some pics, but I hesitate to post them as I have had my photos copied and used without permission several times now on the internet, which really ticks me off. |

Yes they are big for sure. The largest big game animal in North America. I am very pleased to have finally gotten a wild free ranging pure wood bison and it will be my last.
There are very few permits available to non-residents and now that I have a great old bull I am more than content to leave the permits for others. I expect that the USFWS will be approving the import of sport trophies by US hunters in the very near future as it is under review as we speak.
Anyone who is interested in getting one, feel free to contact me and I can hook you up with the outfitter. He is a friend and I have been guiding off and on for him for about 14 years. I will be back up there this coming spring helping with the bear and wood bison hunts.
Cheers! |
