A couple studying bears in Alaska are both fatally mauled. Sad deal...

Getting chewed up by a bear would be a terrible way to go.

Seen this same kid on the discovery channel just last year doing a Grizzly show. He took way to many chances. He would be sitting with feeding Grizzlys just feet away. trusted them too much. I was sadden to hear that it finally caught up with him, seemed like a nice kid.

Check this guys history and you'll see that he was an idiot who has been asking for it for a long time. He would try to hand feed and pet wild grizzly bears, for God's sake! For years he has been trying to convince people that wild bears are just big teddys.

I feel very sorry for the girl--I suspect that she was deluded into believing that this guy knew what he was doing. I also feel very sorry for the bears that had to be put down due to his stupidity.

I do not feel even the least bit sorry for him, though. He got what he was asking for. Stupid is as stupid does.

I agree with the latter post whole-heartedly. I saw the guys show on the Discovery Channel, and I do admit that it was cool with how close he got to the bears, but anybody with any knowledge at all about nature and its' unpredictability knew the moment they saw this guy getting so close to the bears that it was only a matter of time before he got him and a bear into some trouble, one if not both in the end being dead, as in this case. I don't feel sorry for him, mabye his girlfriend since he probably convinced her everything would be fine and bears were "big cuddly animals who wouldn't hurt a fly." I saw on his show, a bear that was corciling his camp and getting pretty close, so he gets out of his tent and charges the bear. Luckily it was a young bear and the bear ran off, but if it would have beena a large mature bear I doubt it would have done much to dissuade that bear from coming closer, mabye provoke it to come closer since their is a crazy little animal running at it on two legs.

Ditto. If you play with fire, sooner or later you're going to get burned. An animal that can kill a human being with one swift bite or swat of its paw is not one to fool with.
