I am going to be in Huron County in November archery hunting. I will be on farm land and am looking for advise on what tree stands would be the best for this area. I am from Arizona and not familiar with Eastern Whitetail hunting. Is rattling and calling effective this time of year? Any help would be great.

Eastern whitetail hunting is a blast! I grew up in PA and hunted extensively, now I'm in AZ and can give you some tips.
1. Use a stand that you can get up the tree quietly. I personally leave my climber at the base of the tree overnight (hunt in secluded areas) to eliminate unnecessary noise and clatter in the morning. Take a cable lock if your wary about theft.
2. Get be up there 45 min before first shooting light.
3. As with any big game, watch your wind.
4. Rattling and grunting (even scents) will work great this time of year. The rut will be getting into full swing.
5. Because of #4, hunt ALL day. The bucks will be very active, so take a lunch with you and plan on staying out from dawn till dusk.
6. The whitetails are very sketchy compared to the mulies here in AZ. If you spook one, he'll be gone and you may never see him. Unlike the mulies who tend to run 100 yards, stop and look at you.
7. If scouting don't worry if you don't see a buck. If you see does, you'll eventually see the bucks.

I'll be in western VA that same time on a whitetail blackpowder hunt. I can't wait to get there.

Thanks for the good advice. I think I will bring my climber with me. Are pop up ground blinds effective as well? Good luck on your Va. hunt, thanks again for the help.

My dad uses a ground blind with good success. It helps if you have problems staying very still. I like to hunt the thicker areas where getting up off the ground is necessary. I guess its just a matter of personal preference.
