I've selected an outfitter for an 2010 goat hunt and he is sending me the contract. Now, lots of hard work to get in shape.

I plan on going to BC and hunting with Beaverfoot Outfitting. I'll have a mountain goat tag, a black bear tag and a mule deer tag, but will concentrate on the goat first.

Plan on using my .270 for the hunt.It is a 10-day hunt starting 9/23/10.

I think so. I am looking forward to the challenges of the hunt. I have a year and half, but have stepped up my exercising so that I am in good shape for the hunt.

I hadn't planned to hunt goats until I saw some posts on it. The rugged beauty of the landscape, sleeping on a mountain in a small tent eating freeze dried food and pushing your body to its limits appealed to me. Yes, call me wierd, but I am sure you can relate.

I live in the middle of the B.C. Coastal mountain range. I usually make several climbs every year on several different mountains. If you have never experienced a trip like this before I am sure you will not be disapointed. You are right about it being a real phisical challenge but once above the tree line the beauty and personal satisfaction is like nothing else. Hope you have a safe and successful trip. I am sure your guide will give you a good idea of what to expect but if I could add a bit of advice... Top quality hiking boots with good ankle support and protection can make the difference of it being a pleasurable trip or not. Have fun and enjoy what B.C. has to offer!

Funny you posted today because I just sent my deposit in this morning.

I bought a pair of Kenetrek 400 Mountain Extreme boots for the hunt.

It is the beauty of the region and the physical and mental challenge that appeals to me about this hunt.

I am not familiar with that brand of boot but they look like they are well built and would easily be up to the task. They look quite similar to my Meindl's.
First several years I was wearing low end hikers ($75-125) that were not really intended for packing. Usually had the ankles and soles blown out no later than at the end of the second trip. Not to mention wet feet for most of trips. The Meindl's have endured probably close to 20 climbs and all my other hunting trips over the last 8 years or so. Looking at the boots you would never know other than a couple small chunks out of the soles. Never had wet feet again!
Anyway, you defenately won't have any regrets on the extra investment. Like fire arms and many other things you get what you pay for.

Thanks. I did quite a bit of research on boots as I think they are probably as important as the rifle for the hunt. Learned thinks about ankle support and stiff shanks, etc. for the terrain.

The Meindles received good reviews as did Lowa's and the Kenetrek's. They seem to be a well made boot and my goal is to them well broken in by my hunt.
