I'm looking at getting a semi auto handgun and don't have a ton of money to spend.
My dream gun would be a Kimber 1911 style 45 acp but...that is way out of my price range and even if I could afford the gun I'd go broke just taking it to the range.

So what is a good 9mm that is similer to the colt/kimber 1911 style
or just a good one around $400?

CZ model SP-01 (shadow if $$$ permits) is a great gun. It's very accurate, reliable and hardy and is ready for IDPA or IPSC competitions if you wanted to in the future.

Browning high power, or one of the cz's

I'm a huge browning hi power advocate. It is my absolute favorite pistol. Therefore I tend to suggest people get one of those if they are looking for a single action 9mm similar to 1911 type guns. The Browning brand guns will cost more, but you can get (or at least used to be able to) the FN Fabrique National marked Hi Powers for much less money. Fabrique National has always manufacured the Browning (P-35) Hi Power and sold it both under it's own name throughout the world and under the Browning brand name in North America, mainly here in the US. There was a time just recently when FN in South Carolina was also importing the Hi Power and offering it with the FN lable mainly marketed to law enforcement, but I believe they stopped offering it due to the idea that Browning was supposed to be the sole imported and marketer of the Hi Power in N.America. If you look hard you may be able to still find the less expensive FN labled Hi Power. There is no difference in the gun between the two brands, it's the same gun, only price and roll markings differ.

I too own a hi power and love the gun, however you're not going to touch one for $400.00 bucks. Not new anyway. The Fn might be cheaper but I still think 4 bills is a bit low. Try the Charles Daily. They make a P35 copy that's not bad for the money or they used to anyway. Haven't seen one in a while. In that price range your looking at possibly a used gun. Nothing wrong with that, just look it over good. Take a look at the Sigma series by S&W. Well within that price range and good guns for the money. A used Glock or Springfield XD would fall in that range as well and are great guns.

Well i got one! I paid $650 for a springfield armory 1911 45 acp and got a few extra clips for it, havent taken it to the range yet but will post results when i do.
next one I am looking at is a springfeild armory xd in ,40 cal anybody have one of these?

I paid $499 for mine brand new about 7 years ago. I sold it about 4 years ago. I actually regret selling it as it was a great pistol, though I'm not a huge Glock fan. All just water under the bridge now I guess.

There's lot's a good choices out there. It's just that a lot of folks get caught up on wanting what they see on TV or on the big screen. Try a few out at the local range and see what you shoot well.
