I've just moved to Ont and after a couple weeks "road scouting" I have come to 2 conclusions about my new home:
1) it's crawling with deer
2) it's very populated for a rural area.
Since I don't know many people here yet, I think that getting access to hunt the small farms in the area would be easier if I was using a bow, not a firearm. Crossbows are legal here and I was looking for advice on how difficult they are to master as compared to a regular bow. |

Point and shoot........you can probably sense that I don't care for them.

I have no illusions of calling myself a "bowhunter" and using a cross-bow. Looking into it I noticed that in my old home prov (Sask) crossbows are lumped in with muzzleloaders and shotguns and are illegal during the "archery only" season.
I think that permission to hunt private land will be easier with a crossbow than a rifle or shotgun. |

I have been hunting with a crossbow with 3 other guys in our gang for abut 6 years and we love them. I shot compound before and still like it but the accuracy and repeatability of a crossbow is very good.
Not only are crossbows/compunds more farmer friendly but in Ontario if you do not already know, you have a very long season. I'm off these holidays and I am out as much as possible hunting until Dec 31!.
As well, if you will be hunting 64A or 64B you will be able to easily obtain a second doe tag. If your in B you have only 1 week shotgun like me, but archery season is long.
Let me know if you are interested in information on purchasing a crossbow. I know a shop in Ottawa that can help you get fitted.
