Hi guys. Made it Ottawa and am more or less settled in now. (Still don't have the web at home).

LOTS of deer around here - not really a suprise as it looks like perfect whitetail habitat: nothing but cornfields, hay fields, pasture and bush. Hunting in my immediate area (West Carelton) looks like a shot-gun only affair as it's fairly populated rural area.

I won't get the chance this year, as my wedding is 12 Oct in Halifax. (You know you have a good woman when not only does she help build your tree stand, but also suggests a fall wedding so we can stay a few weeks afterward and go hunting for a honeymoon).

The local area outdoor show is this weekend in Carp, that should point me in the right direction. Plus I've seen lots of ads for Ont Hunter Safety courses around. It looks like a pretty hunter-friendly area; this should be a good posting.

Good luck Saskie. Too bad we didn't get on a shoot together. Would have been fun. Sounds like you landed in a hunter's paradise. What did you do with your new rifle... taking it with you?

Sounds like you have a real catch, there. Congrats on your upcoming wedding and best of luck with the move.

Thanks guys. The rifle is at the in-laws in Halifax and will be coming back here when we come back in Nov.

Next year I'll be hunting Sask in Sep since the northern zones (70-74) open early enough that I can combine hunting with my annual fishing trip; and I hope to hunt deer here as well during the regular season in Nov. Since I'm no longer a Sask resident I can only hunt the last 5 days of the regular season (25-29 Nov) around home, and that's really tough hunting - gun-shy deer and frigid weather.
