We have just posted a new poll about what you do during the offseaon to prepare for the next hunting season.

Feel free to ask questions or leave comments about the poll.

I agree bitmasher, staying in shape is got to be the hardest thing. I have noticed the better shape I'm in the better season I have!

Yup, nothing will make you feel more out of shape than when you bag a bull or buck and have to drag it.

I'll be the first one to admit that I have gotten excited about seeing a buck, shot (or been with somebody that has shot) it and then only realized afterwards that I'm (we're) miles from a truck. Doh!!!

Elk are bad, I can't even imagine how bad moose would be....

I have pulled off from shooting some game that are just to far to drag. So your right, Ontarget, it definitely does make the whole hunt more successful and enjoyable.

BRAVO to Bitmasher!! Staying in shape is one of the most important things in the off season that you can do. The stress that you put on your body while hunting is amazing. From sitting in the cold to the adrenyline rush when you see that trophy and then of course dragging it out. I have been an EMT for almost 10 yrs and I can't count how many heart attacks and strokes I have seen.

I have been doing presentations in the Hunter safety courses for a couple of years now and there has not been one father, grandfather, mother, etc. that has not agreed with me.

MAKE SURE YOU GET IN SHAPE AND DON'T MAKE YOUR BODY WORK MORE THAN IT HAS TO

Thank you, thank you, thank you very much! Unfortunately I don't have an encore statement.

There is nothing that will spoil a hunt more than a heart attack, either being you or one of your hunting partners.

Welcome to the board, Fire6469.

Why can't you get in to shape, Lever? Just takes a regular schedule, even walking 30 minutes a day 4-5 times a week is a good start.

At 13 you probably don't have to worry too much about heart attacks though.

I really should start running/jogging again but its hard to get back into a groove you have been out of for a couple months. I didn't realize there is an off season. But if I had one I would rest up for the next day. I started a small group at my church focussed around God's Word and Hunting and fishing. Theres always something to do.

This year it was practice, practice, practice at the range. My time away from hunting definitely showed. I'm still not where I want to be, but at least I'm good enough that on opening day I'll be in the woods not at the rifle range. (I just won't be bragging about what a great shot I am)
