I have been hunting the scappoose unit, and the hood unit up the clackamas river hwy in the high cascades. I have seen plenty of sign but no animals thus far.
Has anyone had any luck near portland? Any suggestions???
I need to kill a deer to help feed the family, this winter is going to be a hard one on us. |

| when i hunt west side i hunt those same areas, there are animals out there but you have to get away from roads find trails in the woods and sit and wait for them. in these areas once hunting season starts the deer/elk move deep in the woods, if you road hunt chances of getting an animal are slim to none. when i say get away from roads i mean a couple miles. |

Can you be more specific about where to go and try this method out?
Is there a particular place you go to walk in on a trail and wait?
I am just trying to familiarize myself with some good local areas to hunt. I am in no way scared of going deep in the woods, just wondering where to start.
Thanks for your help ! |

| go place to start would be out side estacada on 224, go to hwy 57, 46,58,or 63. find some logging roads, get into the woods, find game trails and wait, best to scout in spring and summer, keep in mind for next year. pm me if you want more info. |
