Hey All,
I'm looking to make my first shotgun purchase. The Winchester 1300 Ranger Field in 12 ga. has caught my eye. I like the looks, the fact that it chambers 2 3/4" and 3" and the fact that it's on the lower end of the price scale seeing as I'm not in a position to spend too much on a gun right now. I'd appreciate any thoughts and opinions you guys have on this weapon.
Thanks and Go Ducks! |

I've heard they are a good pump gun. On par with the Remington 870 Express, if that says anything. For a pump shotgun, all you need to worry about most of the time is if it fits you right. Other than that generally pumps are a pretty sound design and the 1300 has been around long enough to have developed a reputation, but I've never heard anything bad about it's mechanism. Just like anything else, you could have all the best design and engineering with all the best materials, but if the person assembeling that piece is lazy or just doesn't care or is having a bad day, you could end up with a defective one. Had that happen with the last 870 Express I bought. Though the 870 has a reputaion as being one of the most sound designs ever, and other 870's I own and have owned in the past were excellent, reliable, and trouble free. Is this a USRAC made 1300 or a newer FN made 1300?

| This one is still NIB so I'm guessing FN. When did they start managing production, '81? Thanks for the input, even if it is from a Beav. |

| The 1300 is a fine pump action and very fast to cycle for a pump. My brother uses one of the older ones for the last 25 years waterfowl hunting and it works great for him. |
